We are so excited to kick start the new Service Season with Tijuana! Our team of 6 served on a three-day service trip as they joined our partners Search Tijuana for their annual Christmas festivities. The weekend was filled with traditional Mexican posadas, a construction project, and fútbol (soccer) with children.

Day 1

Friday was filled with various activities including: participating in a posada for the special education school, assisting in building the frame for a roof of a home for a family who lost theirs in a fire earlier this week (Monday), enjoying an evening of soccer with the kids/teens, and ending the day preparing 400 food baskets for the community. 🪅🔨🧺

The team’s highlight was having approximately 200 kids eagerly ready for an afternoon full of sport activities waiting for them after they got back from their construction project. ⚽️🤩

The Mexico team had an eventful first day serving alongside teens from Search Tijuana! 🇲🇽🙌

Day 2

On Saturday our team built and finished a roof for a family whose home burned down on Monday. The team worked alongside some Tijuana locals that taught our team the skills needed to complete the project. 🧱🪚🛠️🇲🇽

Once the construction project was completed, the team attended church and a traditional Mexican posada hosted by the young adults of Search Tijuana. It was a great experience to see families get together and kids and young adults enjoying a magical moment.✝️⛪️✨🎄

The team’s highlight of the day was talking to the family that was receiving the new roof. It was very evident that they were happy and thankful to be able to witness our team working together to bless them with a new roof to keep them sheltered for the winter. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🏠🙏

Day 3

Our team woke up early to go to morning mass. They had some delicious birria from one of the local food vendors and then went to Antorcha, an underserved neighborhood in Tijuana. They ran a soccer clinic with the kids from Antorcha and finished off with a piñata and candy bags for the kids. ⛪️⚽️

After soccer, our team headed back for a quick lunch & debrief with the Search Tijuana team. Our team got some lovely parting gifts before heading home.💙🇲🇽

The team’s highlight was improvising with what they had to make the day special for the kids. Thank you to our friend Felipe for going out of his way and getting the piñata and candy! 🪅🍬

Even though Vicki is part of our staff and has gone on many trips, this was her first time serving in Tijuana! She loved being able to impact the community and play with the many kids that we interacted with over the weekend.
