We strive to provide an equal opportunity to all individuals interested in our service trips, hoping that each life will be uniquely transformed. That being said, we ask each participant to be respectful of each other and of our partners, and to remain open to conversing about the things that make us different as well as the commonalities that bring us together.

TEAM CAPTAINS
Your Team Captain for this trip will be Diego Rios. Here is a message from him:
Hello there! I was at Biola’s Missions Week in March of 2024 and connected with many people about the vision for this trip. Now, that vision has become a reality and we’re excited to offer our first ever Biola Spring Break Trip!
I have been traveling with HFK since 2015. HFK plays a huge part in my life both personally and professionally. The pillars of my life align with HFK’s mission and vision: Kids, Sports, Latin America, Traveling, and God!
The opportunity to go through this unique and life-forming experience is a blessing. Additionally, being able to share it with others takes it to a deeper level. This is an experience some of your family and friends will never understand, yet you will forever share with others who begin as strangers and end as family.
I am excited to follow God’s vision for this team and for you to live out the eternal joy of service! I will share the knowledge and tips I’ve learned throughout my 9 years traveling while learning from each Trip Participant.
-Diego

TEAM CAPTAINS
The Team Captains for this trip will be Daisy Hortelano & Rebecca Hofheinz. Here is a message from them:
Hi! I went on a trip with HFK in 2024 to Costa Rica and absolutely loved it! HFK allows me to do what I love doing the most - serve others.
I’m very excited to see how God will use the team and I to serve him and others and show His love to others through us!
-DaisyHey y’all! I went on my first mission trip out of the country when I was 14 and I’ve never looked back. I have loved every opportunity that God has given me to share His gospel and His love with His precious children, whether they’re truly children or adults. ;)
Over the years, I have specifically focused my attention towards Latin-America, where I have cherished all the people that I have met and the connections that I’ve made. My first trip with HFK to Costa Rica was a complete God story; so many of the things I love in one organization, giving God the glory. I was able to meet new people, both on the trip and in my team, and love the kids through the sports and games we played.
I hope that you will pray over this trip and ask for God’s direction in this. I am so excited that you’re considering going with me, and I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you!
-Rebecca

TEAM CAPTAINS
Your Team Captains for this trip will be Becca Tse & Kaylea Brown. Here is a message from them:
Hi everyone! This is my first trip with HFK as a team captain and I could not be more excited. My first trip ever with HFK (and in short terms missions in general) was in May 2024 and although I didn't know what to expect, it made an even bigger impact in my life than I could have anticipated. I made friends for life, fueled a fire in my faith that I didn't know needed fueling, and changed my perspective on the world and how big our God is.
HFK's mission and vision of kids, sports, Latin America, and spreading the love of God and eternal joy of service align with a lot of my passions. I'm beyond excited to go on another trip, bringing others with me to also experience what God has in store for them through it!
-BeccaHi everyone! Since 2021, I've been involved in international mission trips, and I started traveling with HFK this past year. Some of my favorite things in life include Christ, serving others, working with kids, traveling, and connecting with new people.
I am thrilled to have you join us on this life-changing journey. Sharing this experience with others is a powerful way to further God's kingdom and deepen your personal faith. This is a leap of faith that allows us to serve His people, impacting their lives in profound ways.
Building connections with the communities we serve creates lasting impacts that will resonate for years to come. These memories will remind us of our place in God's kingdom and bring hope for a bright future to those whose lives we touch.
Through the love of sports, quality time, and physical service, we can be the hands and feet of Jesus, helping in every way we can. I can't wait to work and grow together as a team, becoming a family as we serve and show love to others.
-Kaylea

Serving with HMC might include moments of prayer, attending Christian church services, listening to Bible teachings & worship, and participating in other religious focused experiences.
While we partner with faith-based organizations, it is not a requirement to adhere to a specific religion or belief to join us. We strive to provide an equal opportunity to all individuals interested in our service trips, hoping that each life will be uniquely transformed. That being said, we ask each participant to be respectful of each other and of our partners, and to remain open to conversing about the things that make us different as well as the commonalities that bring us together.

Hi y'all! My name is Marissa and this will be my 5th trip with HFK and my 2nd trip to Colombia. I had such a great experience on my last trip to Colombia that I decided to lead a trip this year with my co-captain Marcelino.
I first learned about HFK while attending Saint Mary’s College of California in undergrad and this organization has been close to my heart ever since. I have been fortunate enough to serve in the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Colombia, and at home in the Bay Area.
Serving others, whether at home in the States or in a country you have never visited before, is such a special experience. It brings people together and creates a bond that is very unique. I am so excited to have the opportunity to serve with my team this upcoming summer!

TEAM CAPTAINS
Your Team Captains for this trip will be Liz Soto & Yadira Beltran. Here is a message from them:
Hi there, my name is Liz and beyond excited to come back this year as a Team Captain! I was first introduced to HFK at Saint Mary’s and got the amazing opportunity to travel and spend a month serving in the Dominican Republic.
I reconnected with HFK 2 years ago and visited Peru for a week-long service trip. I’m excited to come back to that same site in Peru and bring people to this wonderful community. This is a community which has seen a lot and experienced more than most people do in a lifetime. There will be plenty of fun and laughs, but let’s not forget to bring loads of love and empathy.
-Liz¡Hola! I’m Yadira and I’m very excited for the opportunity to be one of the co-captains for this trip. My experience with Here for Kids (HFK) has been so positive and incredible that I knew I wanted to continue serving alongside them. This will be my second trip with HFK; I traveled to Costa Rica (¡Pura Vida! 😃) at the end of June 2024 as a team member and felt the joy of service and comunidad reignited in me. I traveled alongside an incredible group of people and learned so much about a culture different from my own.
I am a Spanish Dual Immersion teacher and absolutely love working with children. However, being able to serve others, especially young people, outside the classroom setting is a beautiful blessing. I am from Fairfield, CA and graduated from Saint Mary’s College of CA in 2013 (Go Gaels!). I hope those seeking an opportunity to serve others and do meaningful work consider joining us in July 2025! 😀
-Yadira

TEAM CAPTAINS
The Team Captains for this trip will be Diego Rios & Agustina Singh. Here is a message from them:
Hello there! HFK has played a huge part in my life both personally and professionally since my first trip in 2015.
I am especially excited to co-lead with my amazing wife, Agustina! After attending Reality SF for two years, Agustina and I have felt called to pour into our church community in various ways. First as CG leaders, then as volunteers for the Drop-In Center, and now leading HFK’s first ever “Reality SF & Friends” trip!
I am excited to follow God’s vision for this team and for you to live out the eternal joy of service! I will share the knowledge and tips I’ve learned throughout my 9 years traveling with HFK while learning from each Trip Participant and our partners in the process.
-DiegoHola! I was born in Argentina but grew up in the Bay Area of Northern California. I grew up comparing our life in the states with the lives my family members led in Argentina, and always questioned why they were so different.
I did my first international service trip to El Salvador in high school, where I felt God’s call on my life to keep doing trips like this for the rest of my life. I studied International Development and went on my first service trip with Here for Kids to Peru in January of 2020. I’ve since served in the Dominican Republic and Mexico, and I look forward to visiting a new country and partner site!
I hope you can join us in Costa Rica to play with and love on the kids, offer our hands and feet in solidarity, and to grow spiritually and emotionally!
-Agustina

The team Captains for this trip will be Sandra Lineros and Oscar Rios. Here is a message from them:
Hi! Hola! We are Oscar and Sandra. We have been so fortunate to have done community service with HFK a couple of times in the Bay Area already. Cleaning up parks and beautifying a school. We love to see the before and after, as well as the enthusiasm of the community working together for a common purpose. What is more powerful and inspiring than seeing a student with her father sanding and painting a bench of her own school? Or a family planting the garden of their kids school? This has inspired us to continue our experience with HFK. And now we want to take a next step and go international. Join us! This is going to be a wonderful experience!
Hola! Somos Oscar y Sandra.

Hey Everyone! My name is Zach Silva and I am from the Bay Area. I currently live in Walnut Creek, CA and am working for PIVOT Agency as the Business Operations Manager. I have been serving with Here For Kids International since my first trip in 2012 (leading since 2013). Constanza is a second home to me and I am so excited to share it with all of you! I look forward to seeing how each of you has a unique experience during our trip. They say we are the ones who serve during these trips; however, it is definitely the other way around. I hope you join the team led by Jorge and myself as it will be an open, challenging, and immersive experience mixed with some fun in between. :) Come down and enjoy a week filled with sports, service, fellowship, and experience the culture/cuisine of a true Dominican town.
My name is Jorge Velasco from East Oakland, CA. I am a Saint Mary's College Alum, which is where I first encountered HFK! To date, I have either led or participated on about 13 trips, most to the Dominican Republic but also Costa Rica and Peru. My biggest hope for our team is to share the love and joy of service while abroad and learn about ourselves during the trip.
I chose to be a leader on this team because I get to share with others the incredible experience of serving abroad which has had a major impact on my day to day life. Having been on many teams as both a leader and a participant, I am aware of how to move forward in both joy and challenges.

Opportunities to support international partners beyond the trip week
End of trip excursion to Machu Picchu: "Machu Picchu is an Incan citadel set high in the Andes Mountains in Peru, above the Urubamba River valley. Built in the 15th century and later abandoned, it’s renowned for its sophisticated dry-stone walls that fuse huge blocks without the use of mortar, intriguing buildings that play on astronomical alignments and panoramic views. Its exact former use remains a mystery."
TEAM CAPTAINS
The team captains for this year's trip are Mario Diaz and Vicki Shimkus. Here is a message from them:
“Hello and welcome! We are Vicki and Mario and we are very excited to be co-leading another international service trip to Lima, Peru. We met serving together in Lima wayyyyy back in 2011 and have been on many trips together since. Peru holds a special place in both of our hearts; it is where I served with Here For Kids on my first international service trip, and Peru is Mario’s home country!! Mario, a high school teacher for 34 years, is now retired and living with his wife in Pearland, Texas; and I, Vicki, am still going where the wind takes me, which is currently playing professional soccer in Portugal.
No matter where we’ve ended up over the years, Mario and I both seem to find our way back on these trips. Serving with HFK is an opportunity to grow spiritually and in community with others while having fun and playing all day with children! The children and staff that we have served alongside over the years have become an extension of our family and we hope you will be the newest addition :)
Our trip this summer will be unique in that we will be serving during a national holiday, so the children will not have school. This means we get to spend all of our time playing and interacting with the children, providing their caretakers with a much needed break! This week also might be a “family camp” for Kids Alive Peru (pending Covid risks). Family Camp is special because it is a time when all of the children's homes meet in one location to spend time together. This would mean that the children from all Kids Alive Peru sites (Andahuaylas, Lima, and Pucallpa) would be celebrating their time off of school together as one big familia.
We hope that you will join our familia this July and experience the beautiful country and people of Peru!”

TEAM CAPTAINS
The team captains for this year's trip are Kristen Linn and Hayes Linn. Here is a message from them:
"I am Kristen Linn and I will be leading this trip with my husband, Hayes.
Hayes and I currently live in Syracuse, Utah with our two dogs and one cat. We are both retired athletes from the United States Air Force Academy and have a passion for traveling, service and sports.
At the age of 16, I traveled to Peru on my very first mission trip and I was hooked. Fast forward to now, I have been on a total of 7 service trips to 5 different countries and have no plans on slowing down. It is a passion of mine to be able to share my love of travel and service to others and it was extremely special when I took my husband out of the country for the first time to Monte Plata, Dominican Republic on a Here for Kids trip in 2017 and to Lima, Peru in 2018.
Since the pandemic hit, we have been itching to lead a service trip and are excited for the opportunity to once again travel and serve. We are looking forward to exploring a new location with you in Pucallpa, Peru. Pucallpa is a city of Eastern Peru, located on the banks of the Ucayali River, a major tributary of the Amazon River. We are eager to meet the children and families there and to create new bonds similar to the ones we have made in Monte Plata and Lima.
As two retired athletes, we have been on teams our whole lives. In leading a team, our goal is to bring a group together that creates a positive impact in Pucallpa through hard work and having a ton of fun in the short time we have. As we have experienced, you often go into service trips thinking about the impact you can have on other people, only to walk away feeling the people there had way more of an impact on you. We want to provide the opportunity for our team to experience this because it has changed both our lives and fuels our passion for international service.
We look forward to serving with you soon!"

The team captains for this year's trip are Marcelino Perez and Zach Silva. They are excited to lead this team! Here is a message from them:
“Hi everyone my name is Marcelino Perez and I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area and currently live in San Carlos, California. I've been serving with Here For Kids since 2015 and have gotten the privilege of serving at many of our partner sites. These trips have become an incredibly special part of my life and my goal is to share with everyone who participates on these experiences just how special they are. My hope is that by deciding to join our team you will learn the joy of serving, push your comfort zone and grow as a person through learning from your teammates and from the people you will serve. We will have the unique chance to be in Constanza, Dominican Republic, a beautiful farming community near the mountains and be serving during Semana Santa (Holy Week) which is a special time because it is near Easter and the children we will be spending time with will be out of school!
Hey everyone. My name is Zach Silva and I am from the Bay Area. I currently live in San Ramon, CA while working at COPA Soccer Training Center in Walnut Creek. I have been serving with Here For Kids International since my first trip in 2012 (leading since 2013). Constanza and all of the people in it have become a second home to me. I look forward to seeing how each one of you has a unique experience during our trip. They say we are the ones who serve on the trips; however, it feels like the other way around. I hope you join our team as it will be an open, challenging, and immersive experience mixed with some fun in between. :) Come down and enjoy a week filled with sports, service, and fellowship. Plus, Holy Week is the best time to attend as we combine with multiple other Kids Alive sites for the first part of our trip.”

TEAM CAPTAINS
The team captains for this year's trip are Marisol Valencia and Frank Valencia. Here is a message from them:
"Hi! We are Frank & Marisol Valencia the team captains for the Semana Santa Monte Plata 2022 trip! We have been leading this trip together for the past 6 years and cannot wait to have you join us at this very unique site. We currently live in Valley Center, CA with our dog Willow, a small mountainous town in San Diego, which is one of the reasons we feel like the small rural town of Monte Plata is a second home.
After the challenging past two years our world has encountered, we feel it is so important to reconnect with the things we are passionate about which is serving others. We invite you to be a part of this life-changing experience and get to know the amazing community that is Casa Monte Plata. We firmly believe in the value of relationships that HFK teams develop and we can’t wait to see how those evolve throughout this week.
Semana Santa is special, it is the week of Easter so children get a break from school to spend time as a family. It is an honor that we are invited to join this special time and we know the kiddos will absolutely love getting to know you all. We have been praying for this team, and hope that God puts it on your heart to serve with us!"

Edenvale Service Day
Creating a stronger sense of belonging in the Edenvale Community!
After months of collaborating with Edenvale Elementary staff, our Edenvale Service Day was a huge success with around 100 community members helping complete 10 projects around campus.
With no park or community center in the Edenvale Elementary neighborhood, this service day has a huge impact not just on the school, but on the whole community!
Thank you for serving with us!
Before/After pictures of our completed projects
We still have a pending project to paint and touch up some murals around campus with inspiring multilingual verses and sayings. Pictures will be updated when completed.
A true team effort
Volunteers truly took ownership of the projects at hand and made sure to complete each task. At the end of the day, all projects were completed thanks to everyone’s dedication and initiative. Here are some action shots of many volunteers living out “the eternal joy of service”.
Soccer Tournament on the new field
After projects were completed, Diego, our Executive Director, led a soccer tournament for the kids on the newly installed soccer goals and field! Goals were installed permanently to allow students to use during recess/lunch and community members to use after school and on the weekends.
Thank you to everyone that served with us, you are a blessing to many!
Utah Trail Clean Up
HFK spreads its impact to Utah!
HFK continued our Local Service Opportunity series in Salt Lake City, Utah! This was the furthest local community served from our home base in California. The Utah team of 10 was small but mighty and picked up 12 bags of trash along the Jordan River Trail, helping protect local wildlife and irrigation water.
The team loved serving together and expressed a desire to get out on their own to "Teach the Eternal joy of Service" to others in their community and serve again in the near future.
SoCal Beach Clean Up
SoCal summer service event was a success!
We want to give a huge THANK YOU to our SoCal partner Pacific Beach Rotaract for collaborating with us to host our first ever SoCal Beach Clean Up!
Volunteers from both organizations came together at a local beach in San Diego, CA to collect a total of 17 buckets of trash. This service event helped prevent this trash from making it into the ocean and encouraged others in the local community to clean up the space around them as well. Community members saw some of our volunteers and decided to help by picking up some trash too!
Bay Area Park Clean Up
Thank you to all who participated and served their local community!
A total of 18 participants joined us for our first ever Local Service Opportunity: Bay Area Park Clean Up. We helped pick up lots of trash that was surrounding the lake and endangering the many fish and animals that call the park their home.
This was also an opportunity to connect the local community members and to “Teach the Eternal Joy of Service”. We especially loved seeing kids of all ages participate and enjoy serving their community.
